Drake University

Drake University recently launched a new interdisciplinary concentration in Global and Comparative Public Health. Students from any major are eligible to enroll in the concentration, which carries 21 credits. The curriculum prepares students for work or graduate study in the field of global health. The Global and Comparative Health Concentration is administered through the Drake University Center for Global Citizenship. Faculty and curriculum development for the concentration is supported by a Title VIa grant (Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Languages) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Required courses include:

Introduction to Public Health
Global Public Health
Comparative Public Health
Health and Social Justice
Epidemiology

Electives include courses from the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, including a new course titled Spanish for Health Care Providers. Study abroad and international service learning options will also be available to students. In addition to the Global and Comparative Public Health concentration, Drake offers majors in Health Sciences (http://www.drake.edu/cphs/programs/new_students/bshs.php), Pharmacy (http://www.drake.edu/cphs/programs/new_students/pharmd.php) and a program of undergraduate study in pre-med.
